Finding Your Afrezza Carb Ratio (ACR) & Protein Factor
Forget injected ratios β Afrezza's hepatic bias and fast clearance mean your numbers will look 'weaker' (higher ACR), and that's normal for smooth control.
Step 1: Tune ACR with carb-focused meals
β’ Test a known carb load (e.g., 30g rice or bread, low protein/fat).
β’ Dose upfront with the app's 'NOW' recommendation.
β’ Monitor BG rise/drop.
β’ Adjust ACR: higher if you go low, lower if high.
β’ Typical range: 30β45g carbs per 4u. Many optimized users land 35β40.
Step 2: Tune Protein Factor with zero-carb meals
β’ Eat high-protein, zero-carb (e.g., 300g steak or chicken β vary fat/speed sliders).
β’ Use the app for dose & split. Monitor 4β5 hours.
β’ Late high β increase PGF (0.65β0.75 typical for low-carb).
β’ Low β decrease PGF.
Pro tips
β’ Start conservative: Use a higher ACR (40β50) especially if new to Afrezza, sensitive (honeymoon/LADA), or insulin-naΓ―ve β this mimics the old Ultra Conservative mode safely.
β’ Log 5β10 meals before finalizing numbers.
β’ Tweak ACR by 5, PGF by 0.05.
β’ Ratios can vary by time of day, activity, or illness β trust what keeps you in range.
